| Kansas City Chiefs Vs. Minnesota Vikings:… | |
Read More: Thomas Jones (RB – KAN), San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings The Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings both come into Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City looking for their first win of the season. The Chiefs were blown out twice to start the season with a combined losing score of 89-10 before playing the Chargers much closer last week in San Diego. The Vikings have been much closer in their matchups as they’ve lost three games by a combined 14 points. The Chiefs and Vikings share two common opponents thus far this season in the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs were blown out by the Lions 48-3, while the Vikings played it close with the Lions at 23-26 but lost in overtime. The tough thing for the Vikings is that they were actually leading that game 20-0 at halftime before falling apart in the second half. The Chiefs just dropped a tough one to the Chargers last week by a score of 20-17, while the Vikings fell to the Chargers 24-17 to open the season. The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping that first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin will be able to play in this game for the first time all season. Baldwin is still recovering from a cracked thumb suffered in the preseason in an alledged altercation with running back Thomas Jones. He was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice but has been seen catching passes this week which is progress for him. The status of cornerback Brandon Flowers is still in question as to whether or not he’ll be able to play against the Vikings with the high ankle sprain suffered last week against the Chargers. The injury report should come out Friday night and give a clearer indication of his chances on playing Sunday. The key to victory for the Kansas City Chiefs is very simple for this game against the Vikings. If you stop Adrian Peterson you will win this game. Peterson is probably the best all-around back in the NFL when you look at a strength and speed combination. The Vikings are currently 3rd in the NFL in rushing with an average of 159 yards per game. But they’re ranked 29th in the NFL in passing with 143 yards per game through the air. Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb has completed 58% of his passes for 478 yards with two touchdowns and just one interception so far this season. The Chiefs need to stop Adrian Peterson and force McNabb to beat them through the air. The Chiefs will be counting on Matt Cassel to lead them through the air because the Vikings have a stout defensive line and they play the run very well. They are 4th in the NFL right now in rushing defense by allowing just 67 yards per game on the ground. The loss of Jamaal Charles puts the target right on Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones to pick up the slack. But the Vikings have been struggling against the pass as they rank 29th in the NFL by allowing 299 yards per game so far this season. But they’ve faced Philip Rivers, Matt Stafford and Josh Freeman. Those are three pretty good quarterbacks. The Chiefs passing attack seemed to find a rhythm in the second half against the Chargers and if they can come out against the Vikings with that same success, it’ll give the Chiefs a great chance at winning this game. That’s all for today. Posted in vikings-news | Comments Off

| Chief’s mission: Stop Vikings’ Jared Allen, make… | |
Jared Allen talks with teammates during the fourth quarter of the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Minnesota Vikings played against the Dallas Cowboys during the first preseason home game on Saturday, August 27,2011 at the Metrodome stadium in Minneapolis. (Pioneer Press: Sherri LaRose-Chiglo) (Sherri LaRose-Chiglo) Left tackle Branden Albert can go a long way toward making the 2008 trade in which the Kansas City Chiefs sent defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings look good. Albert will be asked to block Allen, one of the NFL’s leading pass rushers, Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. Albert was drafted by the Chiefs that same year with one of the three picks they received from the Vikings. The Chiefs also drafted Jamaal Charles and since-departed safety DaJuan Morgan. “He’s a great player,” said Albert, who has never played against Allen. “He’s not just a pass rusher. He does it all. There aren’t many guys like that. Some guys just mainly pass-rush. Some guys stop the run. He does both.” Leave any suggestions in the comment box. Posted in vikings-news | Comments Off

| Vikings QB McNabb brushes off questions about his… | |
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Is it possible to teach an old quarterback new tricks? The Vikings (0-3) have been evaluating Donovan McNabb’s mechanics this week, a response to some inaccuracy issues that have bogged down the 34-year-old signal-caller and the Minnesota offense. McNabb has only one turnover through three games. His predecessor, Brett Favre, had seven by this point last season. But several of McNabb’s throws have been uncatchable, either one-hoppers that landed well short of receivers or air balls that sailed over the heads of his targets. McNabb ranks 26th in the NFL with a 78.1 passer rating. His completion percentage is just 58, though that’s close to his career average. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said Thursday the team was examining the way McNabb drops into the pocket, uses his feet when he’s there and releases the ball into flight. Frazier later said there were areas the coaching staff had identified as potential points of quality control in practice. “It’s not a whole lot different than, say, a guy who is a Cy Young winner in baseball,” Frazier said. “You’re always trying to improve on what you have. You don’t ever want to stay the same.” McNabb didn’t sound as if he wholeheartedly welcomed the focus on his fundamentals entering Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. “When you’re critical of yourself and your play, you just look at your reads, you look at how fast you can get the ball out,” McNabb said, brushing off the necessity of actually breaking down his throwing motion, like a pitcher would. “Obviously, you look at footwork and things of that nature, but that’s not just at my position. That’s from everyone.” McNabb was infamously benched by the Washington Redskins last year during his one tumultuous season with the team. “I’ve been in the situation before, many times. Everybody loves the backup,” McNabb said. “But that’s for every team. When things go well, the quarterback is the one who sees all the attention. When things go wrong, they are the ones who get criticized the most.” Notes: After being held out of Wednesday’s practice, RB Adrian Peterson (calf) and LB E.J. Henderson (knee) participated in Thursday’s workout. Frazier said Peterson looked good, but Henderson still showed some tenderness in the joint. Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press.
